Venedig ist auf dem besten Weg zum globalen Freizeitpark. Die Wohnbevölkerung weicht zurück, die Touristen, insbesondere die aus den Kreuzfahrtschiffen, übernehmen die Herrschaft in den engen Gassen Venedigs und machen aus der einst mächtigen Lagunenstadt einen Freizeitpark. Wo früher Bäcker, Metzger und Handwerker ihre Leistungen anboten, befinden sich heute Cafés und Restaurants, Souvenierläden und Hotels. Wohnungen wandeln sich zu Ferienappartements, die Jungen ziehen weg aus der Stadt. Venedig – die globalisierte Stadt.In den Straßen und Gassen entsteht eine eigenartige Mischung aus einerseits flanierenden Touristen, für welche die historischen Paläste oft nur hübsches Beiwerk auf den zahllosen Selfis sind. Anderseits sind da die vielen notwendigen Helfer der Tourismusindustrie, die Gondoliere, Kellner und Schiffer, die wirklich alles per Boot in die Stadt rein und wieder raus bringen müssen.
So problematisch sich der Tourismus für die Stadt auch auswirkt, so macht er Venedig doch zu einem bunten Schauplatz aus manchmal genervten, aber stolzen Einheimischen, begnadeten Selbstdarstellern und interessanten Menschen aus aller Welt.

🇬🇧 Venice is on the best way of becoming a global theme park. The number of residents is constantly decreasing, while tourists, especially those from cruise liners, take over the rule in the narrow lanes of Venice, thus turning the once so powerful island city into a theme park. Where once bakers, butchers and artisans could be found, there are cafes, restaurants souvenir shops today. Flats are turned into holiday apartments, the young generation are moving out of the city. In the streets there is a peculiar mix of strolling tourists on the one hand, for whom the historical palaces are often but a picturesque add-on for their numerous selfies. On the other hand there are the many necessary helpers of the tourist industry, the gondoliers, waiters and boatmen, who in fact must transport literally everything into and out of town.
Problematic as all this is for the city, it nevertheless turns Venice into a colorful arena, harboring sometimes irritated but always proud natives, especially gifted actors playing themselves, and interesting people from all over the world.
