Wo soll man heutzutage noch hinfahren bei alle den Reisewarnungen, wenn einem in Mitteleuropa der Winter zu lange dauert und man sich nach warmen Sonnenstrahlen sehnt? Hier ein Tipp: den Peloponnes bereisen, Griechenlands größte Insel (nachdem man den Kanal von Korinth gegraben und den Peloponnes vom Rest Griechenland getrennt hatte). Im April blühen in der sonst so kargen, dem Mond ähnlichen Landschaft wie z.B. der Halbinsel Mani, die Büsche in braun, rot und gelb. Der Klatschmohn auf dem Peloponnes ist so dunkelrot, wie sonst nirgendwo. Man ist als Tourist noch eine relativ seltene und daher willkommene Spezies und die Ausgrabungsstätten sind bestenfalls von ein paar wenigen japanischen Reisegruppen bevölkert. Die Hoteliers freuen sich noch über jeden Reisenden, auch in den Tavernen ist man als Gast hoch willkommen und umsorgt. Und v.a.: es scheint tagsüber die Sonne bei milden 25-28 Grad Zelsius (im Schatten). Also nix wie hin!

Where could one go these days with all the travel warnings, when in Central Europe winter has lasted too long and you are longing for a warm sun? Here is a tip: touring through the Peloponnese, Greece’s largest island (after the Corinthian Canal had been dug, thus separating the Peloponnese from the rest of Greece). In April flowers are blossoming in the otherwise barren, moon-like landscape like as for example on the Mani peninsula, the shrubbery glowing in brown, red and yellow. Poppy on the Peloponnese is of a dark red as nowhere else. As a tourist you are still a relatively rare and therefore welcome species and the archaeological sites are populated at best by a few Japanese groups of tourists. The owners of the hotels are still pleased with every traveler coming by, even in the taverns you are highly welcome and carefully treated. And especially: the sun is shining all day at mild 25-28 degrees Celsius (in the shade). So get started!
